Professor Kris Berg, Collin College’s director of Jazz Studies, and his band, The Metroplexity Big Band, performed at and closed out the fourth annual International Jazz Education Network Conference on Jan. 3 in Atlanta. Joining the The Metroplexity Big Band in the performance were guests Chris Vadala, Wayne Bergeron and Clay Jenkins.
Collin College Respiratory Care program students Adriana Cheteles and Janet Vadakkan recently received a $5,000 and $1,000 scholarship, respectively, from the American Respiratory Care Foundation. Along with the scholarships, both Cheteles and Vadakkan received airfare and hotel accommodations to the AARC Congress in New Orleans and were recognized in the latest AARC magazine. Vadakkan received the Jimmy A. Young Memorial Education Recognition Award, which is awarded to a student of minority origin and Cheteles earned the NBRC/AMP William W. Burgin, Jr., MD Education Recognition Award, which is given to a second-year student enrolled in an accredited respiratory therapy program leading to an associate degree.
Collin College’s Rockwall Center Site Coordinator Sydney Portilla-Diggs recently graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas with a masters degree in Humanities with a major in literature. In addition, she recently received a Life Coach certification from the Life Coach Institute of Orange County.
Collin College received two awards at the National United Nations Conference in Washington, DC. The Distinguished Delegation Award was based on our representation of the Delegation of Senegal. The second award was for Outstanding Delegation for our representation in the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC.)
