More than four decades after the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., the impact of the African-American civil rights movement advocate and Nobel Peace Prize winner is still felt today.

In a continued effort to pay homage to Dr. King’s legacy and stance for equality around the world, Collin College is scheduled to host the following series of events themed, “Continuing the Dream: Remembering, Revitalizing and Recommitting Plano” on Saturday, Jan. 19:

  • 8 a.m. Power Leadership Breakfast: Speakers and a scholarship drawing for current Collin College students will kick off the day at 8.a.m. in the Collin College Spring Creek Campus Living Legends Conference Center.
  • 11 a.m. Power/Community Unity Walk: Begins at the north parking lot of the Parker Road DART station (2600 Archerwood) and will involve students, staff and community members.
  • 1 p.m. Service Projects: Students will be a part of rebuilding trails at local centers or restoring, cleaning, stocking and moving furniture in partnership with the city of Plano and Habitat for Humanity.
