The Collin College Respiratory Care Program received the Distinguished Registered Respiratory Therapist Credentialing Success Award from the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care at the American Association for Respiratory Care’s Summer Forum in Orlando, Florida.  Only 37 of the 440 accredited programs in the nation received this honor.  Collin College is one of only two schools in Texas to receive this honor.

 

Collin’s chapter of Psi Beta, the national honor society in psychology for community and junior colleges, received the 2012-2013 Chapter Excellence Award.  This award is given for meeting or exceeding chapter excellence standards that reflect Psi Beta’s mission.  In addition, the chapter won the Ann G. Robinson College Life Award.

The Texas Comptroller’s Office awarded Collin College the Gold Leadership Circle Award for Transparency. The award spotlights local government agencies that open their books to the public; providing clear, consistent pictures of spending; and sharing information in a user-friendly format that lets taxpayers easily seek out information.

Culinary arts professor Michele Brown was formally inducted into the Epicurean World Master Chef Society, an organization of professional chefs focused on education, competition, and charity while promoting the culinary industry around the world.

Chemistry professor Amina El-Ashmawy was selected as an American Chemical Society Fellow.

Alpha Delta Rho, Collin’s chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, the international honor society in education, has won a 2013 Chapter Program Award for its “College Wide” Book Drive in the community service category.  The award will be presented at Kappa Delta Pi’s 49th Biennial Convocation in October.

The college mourns the loss of Phil McMahan, professor of political science, who passed away in July 8.
