Evelyn McKnight, co-chair of the breakfast, said Dr. King, whose work ultimately led to the Civil Rights Act that will celebrate its 50th anniversary this year, fought for the rights of all people, not solely African Americans.

“He paved the way for the rights of all mankind,” McKnight said. “People need to remember what a great humanitarian he was, and we should all try to live out the things he believed in.”

The breakfast is free and does not require an RSVP. However, attendees are encouraged to arrive early, as food and seating are first come, first serve.  Local political leaders will be available for a round-table discussion followed by a question-and-answer session.

Sponsored by the Center for Scholarly and Civic engagement, the student portion of the morning will involve a short documentary and presentation in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the ideals and equality of justice. The community health fair will follow the breakfast and will be located in the Spring Creek Campus atrium. For more information, contract Marlene Miller at mamiller@collin.edu
