SOMETHING’S COOKING

For the first time ever, Collin College’s Institute of Hospitality and Culinary Education is hosting a Hospitality and Culinary Arts Career Fair.

The fair will be from 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., on Thursday, Feb. 27 at the Preston Ridge Campus Conference Center and will provide students an opportunity to meet and network with industry executives to learn about careers and internships.

“The Hospitality and Culinary Arts Career Fair will be very beneficial to all Collin College students as they visit and speak to representatives from this industry,” said Linda Wee, professor of hospitality and foodservice management. “Our hope is that students come to this free event.”

The idea for the career fair started through Collin College hospitality chair Karen Musa’s human resources hospitality class.

“Karen Musa arranged mock interviews for her students and invited professionals including human resource managers to conduct these interviews,” Wee explained. “At the time, the experience was only for her class, but we decided that expanding would help other students, too.”

About 30 companies will take part in the fair, including industry giants such as Starbucks, Holiday Inn, Market Street, Aramark, Brinker, Club Corp., Raising Cane’s, Hilton, Crowne Plaza, Dallas Bridal Show, The Joule, Forbes, Hever & Wallace, Kent Rathbun Catering, Choctaw Casino Resort, WinStar World Casino & Resorts, Embassy Suites and more. The United States Department of Labor lists the hospitality industry as one of the fastest-growing industries.

“This is an incredible opportunity for our hospitality and foodservice students,” Wee said. “They will be exposed to multiple companies and be able to interact with them. The fair also showcases our students so companies realize they can gain potential employees right from Collin College.”

Students interested in the fair should dress professionally and bring their résumés. Attendees are encouraged to RSVP for the event by visiting www.collin.edu/hospitality.
