STUDENT ELECTED AS STATE-WIDE LEADER

Collin College student Joel Mason was recently elected as the Texas Junior College Student Government Association (TJCSGA) president, making him the first student in the college’s history to serve in the role.

Joel_Mason-004Comprising leaders from among 72 junior colleges in the state of Texas, Mason’s election is a notable achievement. His term will run for the 2014-2015 academic year.

Mason said he considers it a great honor to serve as TJCSGA president, noting the unwavering support of Collin College and Dallas Fort-Worth Region II leadership and student governments.

“When I first joined student government two years ago, I never dreamed it possible for me to be even considered for this job,” Mason said.

As 2013-2014 president of the Collin College SGA, Mason’s objective focused on expanding the influence of student government on all three of campuses. He believes his hopes for his state presidency are similar.

“My goal is to eventually set a more direct path in place for students to reach the Texas legislature in order to lobby for our interests and concerns,” Mason said.said. “As the second student from this school to serve on the State Executive Board in the last two years, I’m proud to say that Collin College can continue its leadership in representing the needs of students around the state.”
