ACC COLLIN COLLECTS BANNER NUMBER OF MEALS ON WHEELS DONATIONS

Elderly area residents got a concrete example of how Collin College cares late last month. Well, they were cardboard examples, but they were filled with food and there were a lot of them.

All College Council nearly doubled the number of donations to the Collin County Committee on Aging Meals on Wheels over last year, collecting 540 cardboard boxes worth of food. Central Park Campus led the donations with 255, while Spring Creek followed with 190 boxes. The Collin Higher Education Center collected 44 boxes, followed by the Preston Ridge Campus with 41 and the Courtyard Center with 10.

The food drive collected 296 boxes last year.

“It was amazing,” Sara Chacon, one of the organizers, said.  “Collin had a lot of volunteers from student organizations, faculty and staff.  We are already looking forward to next year, and we are already getting the plans in place.”

Campus coordinators were Sarah Henderson at CHEC, Holly Stone at CPC, Caroline Langton at CYC, Ann Blackman and Renee Long at PRC, and Randy Batiste and Deidra Carpenter at SCC
