Collin College graduate celebrates as he walks across the stage

HATS OFF TO THE CLASS OF 2016

A sea of blue flooded the Allen Event Center punctuated by glowing, smiling faces and mortarboards adorned with heart-felt sentiments like “Finally!” “Now hotter by one degree” and “You should be here Uncle Ronnie.”

On May 13, Phil Dyer, former mayor of Plano and retired president of Legacy Texas Bank, delivered the commencement address to 714 Collin College graduates.

Mortarboard Mania

There are a lot of reasons people decorate their mortarboards. Some do it to add a splash of color so they can be picked out by their families in the sea of blue graduation gowns. Others do it in tribute to someone who cannot be at the ceremony. Still others want to express their thanks to God or the people who helped them succeed. And, of course, some just like to share a laugh after years of hard work.

Below is our tribute to the grads who went the extra mile on graduation night to remind their fellow graduates and those in attendance that there are people under those robes.
