COLLEGE RECOGNIZES FACULTY, STAFF FOR GREAT WORK

Collin College took time out of its All College Day festivities to recognize some of the staff members who make the district such a great place to work and an exceptional place for students to learn.

David Malone was named the Full-Time ROSE (Recognition of Service and Excellence) Award winner. Coordinator of Institutional Research at the Collin Higher Education Center, Malone was lauded for his attention to detail and work ethic.

The Part-Time ROSE award went to Nicola Luna, an instructional design assistant at Spring Creek Campus, who was praised for her desire to help others and being very detail-oriented.

The college honored Dr. Salena Brody (at top) as the Full-Time Professor of the Year. A professor of Psychology, Brody’s ability to encourage and inspire her students through positive interactions were acknowledged, as were her work with the mentor program and the Social Justice Club. Other nominees for Full-Time Professor of the Year were: Emily Henderson, professor of Dental Hygiene; Sherry Rhodes, professor of Communications; Greg Sherman, professor of Physics; and Jerry Smith, professor of Fine Arts.

Kris Springate was named Associate Professor of the Year. An English as a Second Language (ESL) professor who works to raise money for international student scholarships, Springate has taught a variety of ESL classes and her supervisors consider her very versatile. The other finalists for Associate Professor of the Year were: Abby Christian, professor of Culinary Arts; David Hervas, professor of Spanish; Carey McKinney, professor of Business; and Steven Sowell, professor of Business.

The college administration also recognized faculty and staff members identified by graduating students as having helped them reach their goals.
