BASKETBALL PLAYERS CLAIM POST-SEASON HONORS

Collin College’s men’s and women’s basketball teams competed in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region V Tournament in March, with the Lady Cougars winning their way to a spot in the regional finals.

The trip through the tourney capped a season in which the Lady Cougars won their third straight North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference (NTJCAC) Championship and went 11-3 in conference play. They had a regular season record of 21-11.

The men’s team earned a spot in the post-season tournament with a 7-5 record in conference and a 19-10 record overall. Individual and team statistics for both teams are available at the www.njcaaregion5.com.

Several Collin College basketball players earned All-Region and All-Conference honors for the 2016-17 season. For the Lady Cougars: Zhanae Whitney – First Team All-Region, First Team All-Conference; Asia Davis – Freshman of the Year, First Team All-Region, First Team All-Conference; Ashtyn Beal – First Team All-Conference; Tree Brooks – Defensive Player of the Year; Asia Willard – Honorable Mention All-Conference; Mya Johnson – Honorable Mention All-Conference; and Karah Sicurella – Honorable Mention All-Conference. For the Cougars: Trevonta Robertson – First Team All-Region, First Team All-Conference; Boaz Williams – First Team All-Conference; Jack Nobles – Honorable Mention All-Conference; and Jonathyn Washington – Honorable Mention All-Conference.
