SpringFest and Collin’s Got Talent Q & A

Cougar News recently spoke with Deidra Carpenter, special admissions coordinator, and Todd Fields, registrar, about the annual SpringFest and Collin’s Got Talent events. Read on to find out more.

What is SpringFest, and what is Collin’s Got Talent?

SpringFest is an outdoor event, held in the Spring Creek Campus Commons area, showcasing the district-wide, creative talent of Collin College students, faculty and staff. Attendees can participate in fun activities or just sit back and enjoy live entertainment while sampling cuisine from local food trucks.

Collin’s Got Talent is an event designed to showcase Collin students’ unique talents. Students will compete for a chance for a scholarship. This year, Collin’s Got Talent will include a faculty and staff category. Faculty and staff will compete for a chance to award a scholarship to the student of their choice and receive additional prizes.

When and where are the events?

Both events will be held, Thursday, April 27. SpringFest will take place from 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Spring Creek Campus Commons area, between the main building and the library. Collin’s Got Talent will take place from 2-3:30 p.m. in the John Anthony Theatre.

When and why did these events begin?

SpringFest began in 2013 as an event for the Collin College community to showcase creativity through various activities. It is also a great opportunity for students to relax and have some fun prior to finals.

Why should students attend?

Students and the community will be able to interact and enjoy fellowship with friends, classmates and the Collin community in a fun, carefree environment, while enjoying hands-on activities and sampling cuisine from local food trucks and other vendors. Students, faculty and staff can turn their talent into tuition at the Collin’s Got Talent event.

How many people typically attend?

SpringFest 2015 drew a crowd of nearly 1,100 people. The Collin’s Got Talent showcase also nearly packed the John Anthony Theatre to capacity.

What are your favorite things about these events?

We like the SpringFest activity tables because attendees can enjoy hands-on activities while interacting with various members of the Collin College community.

Students can showcase their talent on a public stage and get rewarded for their efforts during Collin’s Got Talent. It is amazing to see the talent that we have right here in our own backyard. We are very excited that the faculty/staff wanted to give back to our students by competing in the talent show as well.

Last, but certainly not least, we love the FOOD TRUCKS!  In 2015, the food was excellent, and we are looking forward to another successful SpringFest event this April.
