Summer semesters aren’t just about getting ahead in your education plan. Student Life and Collin College Intramurals are planning a lot of events to get people out and active.

Student Life will host Outdoor Movie Night featuring Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” starting at 8:30 p.m., Thursday, July 13 in the Spring Creek Campus Courtyard and Cookout in the Quad from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 3 in the Preston Ridge Campus Quad. Both events are free to students and are designed to be unique.

“Because each campus culture is different, we looked at the population to decide what would work best for the students at each particular campus,” Student Life Publicity Specialist Jovanna Dollins said.

Dollins said that the events grew out of a desire to provide summer students with the chance to enjoy activities like the ones held in spring and fall.

“We want to ensure we cater to the summer students,” she said. “This is the first year we have tried multiple events like this.”

Student Life held an “Ice Cream Social” at the Central Park Campus in late June to kick off the summer series. Dollins said that Student Life plans to add more summer events as our student population continues to grow.

Keep an eye on Collin College’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts for new additions to the schedule.  For more event details and to RSVP to events, check out www.orgsync.com.

But Student Life isn’t the only group trying to get students involved this summer. Collin Intramurals have special summer activities planned all this month.

Ever wanted to zip line? Enjoy playing sophisticated laser tag? Want to flex your mental muscle and apply it to an “escape room?” You can do all of that and more with intramurals this summer.

Sign up for a Tree Top Adventure with a zip line event, from 12:30-4 p.m., July 12 at Oak Point Nature Preserve in Plano. Indoor Wars (sophisticated laser tag) is planned for 12:45-3 p.m., July 14 at Hard Knocks in Plano. North Texas Escape Rooms in McKinney is offering an event from 1-2:30 p.m., July 25.

The college will also host a special Bowling event at Strikes in Frisco from 12:45-3 p.m. on July 28 to wrap up the summertime schedule.

Intramurals Director Will Mitchell said that students have participated in similar June events to relieve stress, exercise and socialize.

“These are the types of things that aid in a student’s academic experience and success,” Mitchell said, noting that he has been thanked by students for organizing events like the zip line and treetop adventure.

All of the intramural activities are free. Learn more details about everything being offered at www.collin.edu/intramurals. Sign up for special events at www.imleagues.com/collin.
