Construction Management Degree Approved, Classes Begin in Fall

July 12, 2018 – Collin College will offer construction management coursework beginning this fall, building toward an associate degree and two certificate programs which will help fill workforce needs in Collin County’s booming construction industry.

The college recently received approval from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to offer an associate of applied science and level 1 and level 2 certificates in construction management. The programs will prepare students for careers in a major growth sector of the local economy.

“The skills that students will learn in this program are in high demand as our region continues to grow,” Frisco Campus Associate Dean Mike Coffman said. “As we developed this program, we consulted with a diverse advisory committee of local construction businesses. The committee’s members consistently indicated the need for this program and the job candidates it will create.”

In addition to construction management, the program will include: introduction to the construction industry; construction methods and materials; cost estimation; blueprint reading; mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems; project scheduling; safety; and other skills essential in the construction industry.

The program will initially be offered at the college’s Frisco Campus. It will move to the Collin College Technical Campus once that facility is completed.
