Collin College Psi Beta Chapter Recognized Nationally

July 26, 2019 – Collin College’s chapter of Psi Beta, the community college national honor society in psychology, was recently recognized by the organization’s executive director for its accomplishments in 2018-19.

In a release to the college, Psi Beta Executive Director Valerie Senatore noted that Collin College’s chapter won a “Building Bonds” award for a collaborative project with the University of Central Arkansas’ Psi Chi chapter in addition to a Chapter Excellence Award.

The Building Bonds award-winning project involved an array of professional and career development activities designed to better prepare students for graduate school and/or workplace success. Those activities included mock interviewing, financial planning for attending graduate school, self-assessments, and learning about career options for students who earn the bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in psychology.

Chapter Excellence status is determined by the extent to which chapter members engage in leadership, research, service, and are recognized for their scholarship. The chapter will receive a chapter excellence plate to attach to its excellence plaque and a certificate to commemorate this important award.

The mission of Psi Beta is the professional development of psychology students at community colleges through promotion and recognition of excellence in scholarship, leadership, research and community service. Psi Beta is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and an affiliate of the American Psychological Association and the American Psychological Society
