Collin College Marks Record Enrollment

Sept. 16, 2019 – Collin College enrollment surpassed 59,000 students for the first time in the college’s history this fall. The college expects its enrollment to continue in a steady upward trend as Collin County’s population grows and more Collin College dual credit options become available in local high schools.

The district’s annual unduplicated headcount statistics show a total enrollment across the district for fiscal year 2019 was 59,278. That is an increase of 3,653 credit and noncredit students over the previous year.

The figures reflect the highest annual noncredit enrollment in a decade and the highest total credit and noncredit enrollment ever, according to Dr. Tom Martin, vice president of Institutional Research for Collin College.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to serve our largest student population to date,” said Collin College District President Dr. Neil Matkin. “Collin County is growing, and we are growing with it. Our Board of Trustees designed a comprehensive master plan to create meaningful educational pathways to serve all of Collin County, now and in the future. The new programs and campuses are part of that plan.”

Collin County’s population is expected to grow exponentially and potentially triple by 2040. The district’s dual credit enrollment continues to grow as well, offering even more opportunities for students to earn college credit while still in high school. Dual credit enrollment alone grew by 30 percent in the last year. Collin College is planning for continued growth in the future.

A new campus in Wylie and the Collin College Technical Campus in Allen will open in 2020. The college also plans to open campuses in Farmersville and Celina in 2021. The new campuses will provide even greater access to educational opportunities throughout the county, building on the college’s history of service.

“As we celebrate Collin College’s 35th anniversary, it is amazing to reflect back on the college’s enrollment of more than 5,000 students in 1986 and compare that number to the thriving higher education institution we have today,” said Founding Trustee and current Collin College Board of Trustees Chair Dr. J. Robert Collins. “It was exciting to be part of the college as a startup, to see what has been accomplished to date, and, even more so, to think about where we are headed.”

Collin College serves more than 59,000 credit and continuing education students annually and offers more than 100 degrees and certificates. The only public college based in Collin County, Collin College is a partner to business, government and industry, providing customized training and work force development. In addition, the college operates the Collin Higher Education Center, which has an enrollment of 3,500 each year in partnership with The University of Texas at Dallas, Texas Woman’s University, Texas A&M Commerce, Texas Tech and the University of North Texas.
