April 13, 2020 – Collin College sophomore guard Destiny Thurman has been named to the National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) Division I All-American Third Team.

Thurman, who is committed to play next year at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), averaged 17 points per game for the Lady Cougars in her second year with the team, besting her 16.1 average from her freshman year. She averaged 2.3 steals and 4.1 assists per game while at Collin.

“Destiny has worked extremely hard and is very deserving of being an All-American,” Collin College Coach Jeff Allen said. “We are really going to miss her playing for Collin next year, but look forward to watching her play at UTEP.”

Earlier this year, Thurman was named Player of the Year for the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference (NTJCAC) in addition to being named to the All-Conference First Team and NJCAA Region V All-Region Team. The Lady Cougars played their way into the Region V championship game in March.

UTEP Women’s Basketball Coach Kevin Baker has called her “by far, one of the most talented guards in the country,” and said his program will be “heavily impacted when she puts on the Miner uniform next fall.”
