April 4, 2019 – Collin College’s pop a capella group OneSound competed in the International Championship of Collegiate A Capella (ICCA) Southwest Semifinal, March 30 in Phoenix, Ariz. The group will perform free concerts in Plano on April 26 and 27.
The competition was OneSound’s first semifinal competition and the best the group has performed in the ICCA series. The group competed against vocal groups from Arizona, Nebraska, California, Utah and Texas. HardChord DynaMix from Texas A&M University, which OneSound faced in quarterfinals, took first in the competition. While the competition only ranks the top three finishers, OneSound Director Kathy Morgan believes her group gave its best performance to date in the competition.
“The judges’ comments were that we were amazing, noting that all of our soloists were outstanding and our choreography was perfect with our music,” Morgan said, “I am beyond proud of how they performed.”
OneSound’s plans for the future include releasing an EP, creating a music video and continuing to compete.
The group will perform its spring show on April 26 and 27 at 7 p.m. in the John Anthony Theatre at Collin College’s Plano Campus. Admission is free and the public is encouraged to come. The Plano Campus is located at 2800 E. Spring Pkwy. in Plano.
