August 2, 2019 – Dr. Sherry Schumann, Collin College executive vice president, and Mike Dickson, Collin College chief innovation officer, have been appointed to serve on commissions of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC).
The AACC, of which Collin College is a member, is the primary advocacy organization for the nation’s community colleges. The association represents nearly 1,200 two-year institutions and more than 12 million students.
Schumann has been appointed to the Commission on College Readiness, which helps to identify promising practices and colleges and K-12 districts that have innovative solutions to advance college-going rates. The commission will also volunteer as needed to assist in designing innovative programming for superintendents and colleges presidents to foster more effective and efficient relationships between the AACC and the American Association of School Administrators.
Dickson has been appointed to the Commission on Institutional Infrastructure and Transformation, which is charged with focusing on the transformation of the institution to improve student success, including administrative process, infrastructure, technology, and building human resource capacity.
Schumann and Dickson join Dr. Abe Johnson, vice president and provost of the Collin College Plano Campus (Spring Creek), who was appointed to the Commission on Economic and Workforce Development.
Schumann, Dickson and Johnson began serving on the commissions on July 1 and will continue to serve until June 30, 2022. They will help provide insights and leadership that will contribute to the AACC board’s decision-making process and its ability to serve the interests of all AACC member institutions, including Collin College.
Collin College serves more than 55,000 credit and continuing education students annually and offers more than 100 degrees and certificates. The only public college based in Collin County, Collin College is a partner to business, government and industry, providing customized training and workforce development. In addition, the college operates the Collin Higher Education Center, which has an enrollment of 3,500 each year in partnership with The University of Texas at Dallas, Texas Woman’s University, Texas A&M Commerce, Texas Tech and the University of North Texas.
