Collin College Holds Ribbon Cutting For Wylie Campus

Sept. 28, 2020 – Collin College held a ribbon cutting on Sept. 25 to celebrate the opening of the new Wylie Campus. This high-tech facility provides a wide variety of classes. Students can transfer credit hours toward bachelor’s degrees or earn associate degrees or workforce degrees and certificates that provide the training they need for employment.

Located at 391 Country Club Road in Wylie, the tree-lined campus boasts three large buildings: the student center with an attached conference center, the campus commons, and the library.

The three-story student center is home to a striking social staircase, Mama Lucido’s café, a Starbuck’s bar, a Barnes & Noble bookstore, art studios, music practice rooms with Steinway products, and even a retro game room with classic video games.

Also three stories, the campus commons offers a welcome center, career center, state-of-the-art science labs, the CougarFit fitness center, a veterans resource center, and a one-stop center for enrollment, admissions, advising, and financial aid assistance.

The two-story library’s stately glass rotunda is a campus highlight, and this building also houses the American National Bank of Texas Honors Institute and the Anthony Peterson Center for Academic Assistance, which includes a math lab, a writing center, and a science den.

While fall classes began Aug. 24 at the new campus, the Friday night ribbon cutting event marked the official opening celebration of the Wylie Campus.

“We have incredibly strong partnerships in Wylie,” said Collin College District President Dr. Neil Matkin. “When the college first began, the leaders of this city opened their high school doors to Collin College, affording the college the opportunity to offer classes in the evenings. This fall, we are thrilled to come full circle and open the doors of the Wylie Campus with a wide variety of educational opportunities.”

Sitting on just under 100 acres, with approximately 44 acres donated by the city of Wylie, this 339,000 square-foot campus will serve up to 7,500 students when fully utilized.

“One of Collin College’s longstanding goals has been to provide excellent, affordable higher education available throughout our service area,” said Dr. J. Robert Collins, founding member and current chair of the Board of Trustees. “This beautiful new campus is fulfilling that goal in Southeastern Collin County.”
