Cougar Tennis Enters Home Stretch

Collin College’s tennis teams will wrap up their seasons with tournaments throughout April and recently announced their All-Academic Team selections for the year.

Collin’s men strung together four wins and the women’s team notched three wins in March. The women defeated Texas A&M-Texarkana 8-1 at home on March 24, while the Cougars beat University of Texas at Dallas 6-3 the next day.

The wins show improvement after a slow start to the season. Coach Marty Berryman said both teams had a tough schedule to start the spring.

“Both teams played No. 1 teams in the nation, Tyler Junior College and the girls played NCAA Division one opponent SMU,” Coach Berryman said, adding, “We have had great unity on both teams and are starting to play our best tennis. Come out and watch us.”

The Cougars will host two tournaments as well in April. The Southwest Junior College State Tournament is planned for April 13-14 at Collin College. The Region V Championship Tournament will be held April 20-21. Admission is free and seating is abundant for spectators interested in watching great tennis action.

The Cougar Tennis teams will travel to Durant, Okla. twice this month, facing nationally-ranked Cowley College (No. 8-Women, No. 9-Men) April 6 and then returning for Southeastern Oklahoma State University on April 17.
