July 2, 2018 – THE ARTS gallery will host “Tom Hoitsma: Deconstructed Landscapes” from July 18 through Aug. 23. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
Tom Hoitsma is a Dallas-based abstract painter known for large format landscape-based “gestural” works. Born in 1959, Hoitsma, pursued a fine arts degree at Skidmore College, graduating in 1981 and interned with feminist artist Miriam Schapiro. In 1982, he moved to New York City and worked for the Barbara Gladstone Gallery in SOHO, and his primary influences continued to be the abstract expressionists. In the mid-1980s Hoitsma moved to Dallas. In addition to his painting career, Hoitsma has produced a variety of award-winning music documentary series, including Texas Music Scene. He is represented locally by Craighead Green Gallery in Dallas.
A closing reception, free and open to the public, is planned for Thursday, Aug. 23 from 4-7 p.m., with an artist talk at 5:30 p.m. The gallery is located on Collin College’s Plano Campus, Room A175, 2800 E. Spring Creek Pkwy. Summer gallery hours are: 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Thursday; 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Friday-Saturday.
