This fall the college has 31,666 students enrolled in credit classes for the fall semester. Fall 2017 enrollment figures reflect an increase of 1,935 students, 6.5 percent more than fall 2016. The growth continues a trend, which saw a 5.3 percent increase in its spring 2017 enrollment and a 2.5 percent jump in the number of summer 2017 students.
“Academic and workforce education opportunities are vital as Collin County’s population continues to grow,” Dr. Matkin said. “These sustained increases in our enrollment are evidence that Collin College is responding to the educational needs of the region. We will continue to offer degrees and programs that help our students take advantage of the opportunities ahead of them.”
The Central Park Campus in McKinney had the most growth for a single site, with 588 more students this year than last. Enrollment at the Preston Ridge Campus in Frisco grew by 422, while the Spring Creek Campus in Plano enrolled 283 more students than a year ago.
Much of the fall 2017 enrollment growth came from dual credit enrollment, an area Collin College has expanded as part of its strategic plan. A record high number of 5,743 high school students are enrolled in dual credit offerings countywide. First time freshman increased by 9.4% over last year to 5,557 students – another record.
