Collin College Named “Best for Vets” for Fifth Year in Row

October 30, 2018 – Collin College has been honored by Military Times in its Best for Vets: Colleges 2019 rankings. This is the fifth year in a row that the college has earned this distinction.

“Collin College is committed to offering comprehensive resources and academic services that assist student veterans in achieving their educational goals.” Collin College Executive Vice President Dr. Brenda Kihl said. “We are very proud of the continued recognition of our efforts by Military Times.”

Collin College was one of only three Texas community colleges to make the Best for Vets: Colleges 2019 list. The Military Times rankings are based on the results of the organization’s annual survey – a school-by-school assessment of veteran and military student services and rates of academic achievement – as well as a detailed review of public data collected by federal agencies.

Military Times’ Best for Vets designation is trusted throughout the veteran community as the mark of excellence for schools and other organizations that work with veterans, service members and military families,” said George Altman, the Military Times editor in charge of the rankings. “Fewer than half of the roughly 500 colleges and universities that competed for the recognition earned the right to call themselves Best for Vets in 2019. Their efforts should be commended.”

Collin College works diligently to ensure that veterans have the support they need to get the most out of their college experience. The college served more than 1,400 veterans in fiscal year 2017, when the survey was conducted. The college offers information on financial aid, Veterans Affairs education benefits, personal counseling and membership in the Student Veterans of America through its Veterans Resource Center (www.collin.edu/studentresources/veteransresources).

The Best for Vets: Colleges 2019 rankings are published in the print issues of Army Times, Navy Times, Air Force Times and Marine Corps Timeson newsstands now; and online at https://rebootcamp.militarytimes.com. Military Times’ series of Best for Vets rankings includes: Best for Vets: Colleges, Best for Vets: Employers, Best for Vets: Places to Live and Best for Vets: Franchises.

The only public college in the county, Collin College is a partner to business, government and industry, providing customized training and work force development. In addition, the college operates the Collin Higher Education Center, which serves 3,500 additional students each year in partnership with The University of Texas at Dallas, Texas Woman’s University, Texas A&M Commerce, Texas Tech and the University of North Texas.
