Collin College’s Dignity Initiative Hosts Gender Violence Presentations

Feb. 07, 2019- Collin College’s Dignity Initiative will kick off the spring 2019 gender violence series with the documentary “Telling Amy’s Story” followed by a post-film discussion. Free and open to the public the documentary will be screened from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at the Frisco Campus Conference Center, 9700 Wade Blvd. and Monday, Feb. 18 at the Plano Campus Living Legends Conference Center at 2800 East Spring Creek Parkway.

“Telling Amy’s Story” focuses on the life of Amy Homan McGee who was killed by her abusive husband in central Pennsylvania on Nov. 8, 2001 while her kids waited in the car. Hosted by actress and activist Mariska Hargitay and told by detective Deirdri Fishel, the film features Amy’s parents, co-workers, law enforcement officers and court personnel who share what happened to Amy prior to her death.

    Interactive presentation by Collin College counselors
    4-6 p.m., Thursday, April 18 at the McKinney Campus Conference Center
     
  • Self-Defense Symposium
    Interactive Presentation with demonstration by police officers, Collin College administrator, and martial arts experts
    5:30-7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 25 at the Plano Campus Living Legends Conference Center
