ROSE Award, Faculty Award Winners Honored at All College Day

Collin College recently took a few moments to recognize faculty and staff members who go the extra mile to make the college a great place to be a student and to work.

Becky Hessing, an administrative assistant at McKinney Campus (Central Park), was recognized with the Full-Time ROSE Award. Hessing was lauded for her dedication to helping anyone who asks. Comments from her nomination noted that she was willing to work to find a solution to any problem and that she does it with a positive attitude.  One comment read, “Her professionalism, skills, welcoming manner, and her humor help set the tone for the healthy work environment we enjoy.”

2019 Part-Time ROSE Award Winner Amanda Lunn
2019 Part-Time ROSE Award Winner Amanda Lunn joined by Dr. Matkin and Langford.

Amanda Lunn was named Part-Time ROSE Award winner. Lunn is a reference librarian at Plano Campus (Spring Creek). She was recognized for her enthusiasm and for providing excellent research assistance to students, faculty, and staff. Her nomination noted that she exemplifies the core values of dignity and respect in the way she treats all library patrons.

The 2019 Professor of the Year honor went to Dr. Levi Bryant, professor of philosophy at Frisco Campus (Preston Ridge). Dr. Bryant was described as enthusiastic, earnest, and interested in students. One student nominator said, “Professor Bryant is encouraging to students and makes the course material even more relevant to our lives.” Bryant’s teaching style was noted, as well as his dedication to his subject. He is an internationally-recognized scholar with numerous published scholarly articles and reviews.

Susan Owens, a math professor at McKinney Campus (Central Park), was awarded the 2019 Associate Faculty of the Year award. She was recognized as a very enthusiastic and engaged instructor who has a true passion for teaching math. Her efforts to reach students who are apprehensive about taking math courses were of particular note. In a video, which played during the ceremony, Owens said she likes helping students who struggle because there have been times in which she struggled as well.
