Collin College Kicks Off Fall Dignity Initiative Series

Sept. 10, 2019 –Collin College will kick off the fall Dignity Initiative series with the presentation “International Justice Mission: A Global Movement to End Human Slavery” from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at the Plano Campus (Spring Creek) Living Legends Conference Center, 2800 E. Spring Creek Pkwy.

Free and open to the public, the event will feature guest speaker Nate King, regional mobilization manager for the International Justice Mission. The International Justice Mission is the largest anti-slavery organization in the world. King will share case studies and stories of rescues from around the world.

An international nonprofit organization focused on human rights, the International Justice Mission was founded in 1997 by lawyer Gary Haugen. Based in Washington, D.C., with 17 offices in Africa, Latin America, South Asia, and Southeast Asia, and five partner offices in North America, Europe, and Australia, the organization works to combat sex trafficking, child sexual assault, cybersex trafficking, forced laborslavery, and police abuse of power.

According to Sherry Rhodes, Collin College professor of communication studies, the International Justice Mission has rescued more than 49,000 people from slavery and other forms of violence and helped local authorities arrest more than 3,800 suspected slave owners and criminals in countries around the world.
