Jan. 2, 2020 – The Art Gallery at Collin College will host the “Land: Awe and Raw” exhibition, from Thursday, Jan. 16 through Wednesday, Feb. 12 at the Plano Campus (Spring Creek). A reception will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.

The traditional theme of landscape is re-examined in this mixed-media group exhibition. With environmental concerns becoming a greater topic of discussion, the artworks demonstrate the concepts of the “awe,” relating to 19th century landscape, as well as the more direct, or “raw,” documentary-based focus on the natural world. Gallery Director Julie Shipp curated the exhibit and said she considered creative new approaches to depictions of land and how it relates to the changing reality about nature.

Visitors are also encouraged to bring a lunch and join faculty, staff, and students for the Art Café (brown bag lecture series) in the gallery from 1-1:45 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23.

The gallery is located on Collin College’s Plano Campus (Spring Creek), Room A175, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano. Gallery hours are: 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Friday and Saturday.
