Paralegal student Kelly Blankenship‘s article, “Servicemembers Protect You; Are You Protecting Servicemembers? Protections Specific to Auto Lending and Leasing” appeared in the March/April 2020 issue of ABA Bank Compliance, a prominent industry journal published by the American Bankers Association. The article concerns the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA). The student credited the success of the article in part to skills she developed in Legal Writing (LGLA 1305) taught by Professor Gage Waggoner. 

English Professor Serena Richards recently completed her Ed.D. in Higher Education from Concordia University-Portland.

Dr. Rachel Walker, Professor of Government, has been selected to serve on the American Political Science Association Community College Faculty Award Committee for 2020. The Community College Faculty Award is a new award recognizing excellence in teaching, mentoring, community engagement, governance, and/or research by a community college faculty member in the profession. 

Psychology Professor Diana Kyle has had a scholarship from her former institution named in her honor. The standing scholarship is the Professor Diana Kyle and Dawn Foor Sexual Assault Prevention Fullerton College Scholarship.  

The LVN to RN program received final approval for a curriculum change from the Board of Nursing and the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). This updated program will begin admitting students this summer for an accelerated pathway to allow Licensed Vocational Nurses to earn their Associate Degree in Nursing

Seventeen nursing students were recently inducted into the Alpha Delta Nu Chapter of the Nursing Honor Society.

McKinney Campus Makerspace Assistant Sowmya Rajendran has received approval to virtually present at the Third Annual Makerspaces for Innovation and Research in Academics (MIRA) conference. Her presentation is titled, “Collaborations Across Disciplines: Making in Mathematics.”

Adjunct Professor of Art Colette Copeland has been awarded the 2020 Biennial Kevin Mullins Memorial Award by the Salina Art Center in Kansas. Copeland was noted for her work not only as an artist, but also as a teacher, an author, and volunteer. Copeland is a multimedia artist whose work has been exhibited in 25 solo exhibitions and 139 group exhibitions/festivals across 35 countries.

The artwork below was created by Bailey Bell (a Drawing I student), Jonathon Alcott, Thi Huynh Nga “Kylie” Tran, and Marixie Rivera. Adjunct Professor A. Eilene Carver notes that “the works on the top row address the solitude of ‘shelter in place,’ while the images of breakfast and makeup speak to the monotony of the ‘Groundhog Day’ experience we are currently living.”
