Dr. Rachel Bzostek Walker, associate dean of Academic Affairs at the Technical Campus, was a senior contributing author for “Introduction to Political Science,” an open license book published by OpenStax. OpenStax, associated with Rice University, publishes peer-reviewed, openly licensed college textbooks available online for free and at reduced prices in print. Other contributing authors included educators from Georgetown University, American University, San Francisco State University, Gonzaga University, and others. New members of the Criminal Justice Honor Society Gamma Alpha Epsilon were celebrated on May 25 during a ceremony at the McKinney Campus. Faculty members Dr. Lee DeBoer, Dawn Dias, and Laura Salander have supported this group this past year. Dr. DeBoer and Dias traveled with a group of students to the 2022 American Criminal Justice National Conference in Kansas City, Missouri, from March 20-25.

Amanda Oswalt, professor of English and Humanities, has been selected to serve on the National Humanities Center’s 2022-2023 Teacher Advisory Council. Through collaborations with the center’s Education Program, the council is responsible for providing effective resources and programs used by humanities educators at the pre-collegiate and collegiate levels.

Dallas Innovates published a feature story on a grant program from Capital One supporting the Automotive Technology program. Students Baba Tai Oginni and Marae McCarley were featured in the story. Lt. Traci DeRose, of the Collin College  Police Department, completed her master’s degree in Public Administration from Texas Tech University.

Paula Braaten, assistant director of Child Development, recently graduated from Texas Woman’s University with a master’s degree in Child Development.

Anna Genneken, professor of English at the Technical Campus, graduated with a Ph.D. in Rhetoric from Texas Woman’s University in May.

Raven Hartkopf, discipline lead of Collision Technology, recently earned a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences in Administration from the University of North Texas.

Collin College has hosted a State Finals Competition for the Texas Academic Decathlon’s exceptional high school students for five years. The competition has directed $70,000 over the first five years to the Collin College Foundation for student scholarships. Special thanks to former Board member Steve  Cone and Dr. Abe Johnson for establishing the relationship. Thanks to Texas Academic Decathlon Director Rick Hopkins and his board, Campus Provost Craig Leverette, Academic Deans Wendy Gunderson and Dr. Dawn Richardson,  Professors Bryan Rasmussen and Catherine Duke, and all   the committee members and college volunteers that make  this on-going competition a success every year.
