March 1, 2023 –At its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Feb. 28, the Collin College Board of Trustees voted to maintain the district’s current low tuition rates for Fall 2023 and approved a three-year contract extension for District President Dr. Neil Matkin.
At $62 a credit hour for in-district students, Collin College has the lowest in-district tuition rate in the state. Tuition rates are the same for students earning certificates, associate degrees, and baccalaureate degrees.
“With the rising costs of products, it is important to keep college affordable for students,” said Board of Trustees Chair Andrew Hardin. “Our students have the opportunity to select from a wide variety of programs, learn from professors who are experts in their fields, and take classes in beautiful facilities – all at reasonable tuition rates.”
In demonstration of their support, the Board of Trustees extended Dr. Matkin’s contract through Aug. 31, 2026. The college’s third president, Dr. Matkin’s first day was April 6, 2015, which coincides with the college’s April 6, 1985, founding day.
“Dr. Matkin is known for his common refrain ‘Students first, no excuses,’ and it is one of the many reasons we are delighted with his leadership,” Hardin said. “His comprehensive vision for the college has strengthened stakeholder relationships and dramatically expanded the accessibility of higher education in the college’s service area.”
Since the district president began, the college has been approved to offer five baccalaureate degrees and is currently offering a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a Bachelor of Applied Technology in Cybersecurity, and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Construction Management. Since 2019, the college has opened several new centers/campuses including the Public Safety Training Center in McKinney, along with campuses in Wylie, Farmersville, and Celina, as well as the Technical Campus, a state-of-the-art facility in Allen which is home to many of the college’s workforce programs. Also, the college has added an IT Center at the Frisco Campus and the new Andrea-Mennen Welcome Center at the McKinney Campus.
Collin College serves more than 57,000 credit and continuing education students annually and offers more than 100 degrees and certificates, including a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), a Bachelor of Applied Technology (BAT) in Cybersecurity, and a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Construction Management.
