Collin College Hosts Career Exploration Fair

March 29, 2018 ­– Learn about in-demand careers and your pathway to them at Collin College’s Career Exploration Fair, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Thursday, April 12 at the college’s Preston Ridge Campus Conference Center. The event is free and open to the public.

The Career Exploration Fair is more than just a job fair. It provides attendees with the chance to sharpen their job-seeking skills, meet industry professionals, examine possible careers and begin developing a plan for their futures.

Opening Speaker Aaron Schwartz, recruitment evangelist at Indeed, will kick things off at 10 a.m., with a talk about the things that employers are looking for in job candidates. 

A vendor fair with dozens of local and national businesses will kick off at 11 a.m. alongside “campfire sessions” providing 20-minute informal discussions on topics like communication skills, phone/video interview etiquette, social media do’s and don’ts and information on how “soft skills” can affect your career outlook. Attendees will can also get a professional photo for use on LinkedIn at the fair’s “head shot booth.”

The Career Exploration Fair will close with a presentation by Lucinda Ruch, an IA Certified LinkedIn Instructor.

“The Collin College Career Exploration Fair is a great opportunity for our students and the public to refine their job-seeking skills and find a career that helps them realize their dreams,” fair organizer Karen Musa said.

The Preston Ridge Campus is located at 9700 Wade Blvd. in Frisco. Attendees should dress in business attire, be prepared to visit with human resource professionals and recruiters, and bring plenty of copies of their current résumé.

Collin College serves more than 53,000 credit and continuing education students annually and offers more than 100 degrees and certificates. The only public college in the county, Collin College is a partner to business, government and industry, providing customized training and work force development. In addition, the college operates the Collin Higher Education Center, which serves 3,200 additional students each year in partnership with The University of Texas at Dallas, Texas Woman’s University, Texas A&M Commerce, Texas Tech and the University of North Texas.
