DR. NEIL MATKIN NAMED COLLIN COLLEGE DISTRICT PRESIDENT

Collin College trustees voted to approve Dr. Neil Matkin as the community college’s third district president and officially welcomed him at the monthly board meeting.

Dr. Matkin and his wife Janyth movedĀ to Collin County from Louisiana, where he has served as the executive vice president of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System. He stepsĀ into the role of chief executive at a pivotal time as Collin College celebrates its 30th anniversary and prepares for the next academic year.

“Dr. Neil Matkin is a remarkable leader, and we are very excited to welcome him to Collin College,” said Mac Hendricks, who chairs the college’s Board of Trustees. “At every phase of the search process, we took painstaking care to be thorough while looking at the total picture. We know Dr. Matkin will do the best job for Collin College because he has the background to take the college to the next level.”

The board announced Dr. Matkin as the sole finalist on Saturday, Feb. 28 but could not vote to make the presidency official until a waiting period required by state law expired on March 2.

“Collin College is recognized throughout Texas and nationwide as an institution of the highest caliber. I am deeply humbled and honored to be selected as district president and look forward to working with the Board of Trustees, students, faculty, staff and community in continuing the quest for excellence overwhelmingly evident throughout Collin College,” Dr. Matkin said.

Prior to his post in Louisiana, Dr. Matkin served as president of the Central Campus of San Jacinto College and served in a variety of administrative and staff roles with the Virginia Community College System, the Illinois Board of Higher Education and Ambassador University. He holds both an Associate of Arts and a Bachelor of Arts from Ambassador College as well as a Master of Science degree from Golden Gate University, a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Dallas and a Doctorate of Education from Texas A&M University-Commerce.
