College Names Student Employee of the Year

Asal Moini, a student assistant at the Spring Creek Campus Writing Center, has been named the 2018 Collin College Student Employee of the Year. Her award was revealed at a ceremony at the Collin Higher Education Center, April 12.

Moini was nominated for her effective communication skills, her professionalism and her helpfulness. She is known for her positivity and her willingness to engage students in friendly, warm conversation. A native speaker of Farsi, she is also invaluable in helping Persian students who visit the writing center.

“I love the communication I have with the students, being able to help them and guide them, even with simple small things,” Moini said. “It’s enough for me to know I am helping someone.”

Moini, who is interested in neuroscience and plans to go to medical school, said she fields questions in both writing and math and tries to be a friendly face for the people who come in for help, no matter the subject. She said she even worked with one student with similar career aspirations identify potential post-Collin studies.

Moini received a plaque commemorating the honor and an official Collin College diploma frame, and is now eligible to be honored at the regional and/or national levels of the National Student Employee Association awards.

The reception recognized “excellence and extraordinary effort demonstrated by Collin College student employees who exemplify the college’s Core Values of Learning, Service and Involvement, Creativity and Innovation, Academic Excellence, Dignity and Respect, and Integrity.” Other nominees for the Student Employee of the Year award were: Ujjwal Bajagain, Nursing Department student worker at the Central Park Campus (CPC); Brittany Blakemore, CPC math lab student assistant; Sarah Chaney, CPC testing center student assistant; Kathleen Marie Chase, Spring Creek Campus (SCC) ACCESS Office clerk; Steven (Eli) Gonzalez, SCC Student Engagement Office student assistant; Sarra Guesmia, CPC Student Engagement Office student assistant; Danielle Brianna Jacquot, CPC library circulation student assistant; Mooka Liamu Ndulubila, SCC Academic Affairs Division student assistant; Claire Parde, SCC student assistant; Brandon Parrent, CPC fitness center assistant; Anna Phillips, SCC costume shop assistant; Taylor Pierce, CPC MakerSpace assistant; Robyn Rozelle, SCC Fine Arts Department student assistant; Tiffany Sia, SCC Student Engagement Office student assistant; and Ximan Yu, SCC library circulation student assistant.
