Many new students and their families had the opportunity to tour the Cary A. Israel Health Sciences Center at the McKinney Campus (Central Park) during the annual fall festival and open house on Oct. 3.

In the past, the open house was to welcome new nursing students and their families to Collin College. This year the open house included all Health Sciences students.

Attendees were greeted by Collin Cougar as they entered the building and were offered guided tours through the labs with demonstrations by senior nursing students and faculty. Professors and staff from the EMS Department also showed off the Simulation Center which features a number of manikins. The teaching aids span many levels of technological capability which allows for scenarios to be as close to “real world” as possible.

“The purpose of this event is to really show our new and prospective students everything that our Health Sciences Center has to offer,” said Heather Evarts, professor of nursing and organizer of the event. “It is also an opportunity for their families to see where their family member is spending all their time.”
