Two Collin Basketball Players Selected for NJCAA All-Star Weekend Event

June 12, 2023 – Collin College basketball players Waiata Jennings and Mackenzie Buss have been selected to participate in the 15th Annual National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Women’s Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Weekend in Atlanta, Georgia, on July 20-23.

The All-Star Weekend features the top 40 NJCAA women’s basketball players in the nation and will include an all-star game. Clayton State University in Atlanta hosts the college hoops experience. It is the only NJCAA-certified event for women’s basketball.

Jennings, a 5-foot-9 freshman guard originally from Rotorua, New Zealand, was named a Second Team All-American by the NJCAA. Jennings averaged 16.4 points per game along with 5.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists. She recorded 92 steals, about three per game. Jennings was named the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference (NTJCAC) Player of the Year, the World Exposure Report Junior College Division I Freshman of the Year, and was added to the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Two-Year College Coaches’ All-America Team.

Buss, a 5-foot-4 freshman guard from Lake Dallas, was named an All-American Honorable Mention. Buss notched 12.5 points per game while shooting 50.8 percent from the field. She sank 39.7 percent of her three-point attempts and added 4.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. Buss was named to the All-Region V Team and was First Team All-Conference.

Buss and Jennings were part of the 2022-2023 Collin College Lady Cougars that recorded an overall record of 29-3, setting a new mark for most wins at the college. The team also earned the college’s first-ever at-large invitation to the NJCAA National Basketball Tournament.
