  Former Board of Trustees Member Tino Trujillo passed away in late June. A founding board member who served the college for almost 30 years, Mr. Trujillo helped establish the college and guide its course until his retirement last year. Former Collin College student Maria Burbano received the prestigious Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program Award at The University of Texas at Dallas. She was one of 283 students across the nation selected to receive the scholarship out of 1,166 students. In 2012, she received a Hi-TeCC transfer scholarship from Collin College to UTD.

Professor of History Kyle Wilkison was selected as a 2014 Piper Professor by the Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation.  Piper Professors are recognized for superior teaching at a Texas college or university.  Dr. Wilkison is one of 10 professors statewide to be honored and one of only two community college professors. The respiratory care program will receive the Distinguished RRT Credentialing Success Award from the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care.
